We are working on a concept called Inclusive Spaces, that aims at creating dignified living spaces compatible for persons with disabilities.
Across various cities in India, there are many professionals with disabilities who struggle to find decent accommodations that suit their needs. This puts a lot of pressure on them as well as on their families, especially when they are just about to transition to professional career. Wheelchair users especially have a difficulty finding suitable shared accommodations due to ill-designed houses/apartments and surrounding access areas.
With the increasing awareness among the corporates, more companies are recruiting persons with disabilities. We shall soon be piloting this in a 1800 sqft apartment near Chennai’s Siruseri IT park.
With several corporate houses in close distance, we hope to generate interest among them to recommend their employees with disabilities to explore such accommodations that are more accessible and convenient.
With this, we also aim to create an eco-system where neighboring children and adults also understand and appreciate persons with disabilities.
With increasing interest in companies to recruit persons with disabilities, we see this need growing in near future and our attempt is to create a model that can be replicated across India.
